Compact gaming mouse: ASUS ROG Strix Carry review

In a recent article, we told you about the premium and expensive mouse ASUS ROG Chakram. This time we will consider a more affordable option – ASUS ROG Strix Carry. Its price in Russia is 5,712 rubles.

The device comes in a black and red box, inside which you can also find a cover for transportation, a logo sticker, batteries, as well as a small bag with interchangeable Japanese microcontrollers from Omron and tweezers for a neat replacement.

Transmitter for connecting to a computer in mode 2.4 GHz hidden under the cover inside the manipulator itself. Compared to the ROG Chakram, the kit seems more modest, however, the price of the ROG Strix Carry is half as much. Since the device works exclusively wirelessly and on batteries, there are no wires in the kit. Finger batteries can be used if desired.

The dimensions of the mouse are very small (101x62x36mm) – in fact we have before us a compact portable gadget that you can put in your pocket.

The assembly is excellent. During use, the removable part of the body fits snugly against the mouse and does not play.

At first it seems that the device is symmetrical, but in fact it is not. Design designed for the right hand. Thanks to the asymmetric silhouette and rubberized ribbed side faces, the optical mouse is easy and convenient to use.

If you have a huge hand, then it is better to grip the mouse with your thumb and ring finger, and not hold it in full grip.

For work, batteries or rechargeable batteries of type AA (finger-type) are required. Come with Energizer. Weight with them is 118 grams. Without them – 73 g.

To replace the batteries, you need to remove the upper part of the case, which is mounted on a magnet. The cover is removed immediately with the keys and gives access not only to the batteries, but also to microcontrollers, which can also be easily replaced.

The battery life declared by the manufacturer is 300 hours (in the 2.4 GHz transmitter connection mode) and 400 hours (if connected via Bluetooth LE)

After two weeks of active use LED– The indicator continues to light green, which means a charge of 25 to 100%. If the sensor glows red when turned on, then less than 25% is left.

On the right side of the device are additional buttons that are convenient to press with your thumb. On the upper side, in addition to two keys and a scroll wheel, there is a parameter change button DPI.

An optical sensor is located on the bottom of the manipulator PMW3330 with a resolution of 7200 dpi, which provides high sensitivity and the ability to comfortably play shooters and strategies, as well as work in the operating system.

The manipulator is friends with computers on Windowsso on macOS.

Next to the optical sensor on the bottom there is a mode switch: 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth, and in the third position, the toggle switch turns off the device.

If the computer is behind a large screen or there are a lot of other wireless devices in the room, then there may be problems, such as shortening the range and increased response time. In this case, it is better to use a USB extension cable for the transmitter. However, the wire necessary for this is not included in the kit and will have to be purchased separately.

This manipulator supports the program. ROG Armory II for Windows, where you can configure many different options. For example, program buttons or change sensor settings.

Here you can save several profiles with different parameters and switch between them on the go with a combination of buttons – side and middle (by default changing the resolution of the sensor).

Unlike other devices of the ROG family, Strix carry no backlight. Obviously, it was not made in order to increase the operating time and reduce the size of the device.

ASUS ROG Strix Carry – A compact mouse with a good sensor, two additional buttons and interchangeable microcontrollers. It is perfect for those players who need a compact and easy-to-transport device while maintaining the main advantages of premium gaming mice.
