“Baby Drive” director Edgar Wright to direct new “Running Man”

Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures has struck a deal with Edgar Wright to create a new adaptation of Stephen King’s fantasy novel “the running Man“.

It is noted that this will not be a remake of the 1987 film with Arnold Schwarzenegger starring… The screenwriter and director of Baby Drive will co-write the story with Michael Bacall (the Macho and the Nerd dilogy), and it will be much closer to the book’s original source.

Simon Kienberg (X-Men series) will be one of the producers of the tape. The cast and filming start date have yet to be confirmed.

The original novel takes place in the United States in 2025, in a totalitarian, violent and economically depressed world, where the protagonists take part in a TV show called The Running Man. Players are allowed to go anywhere in the world, but hunters are sent after them, who are instructed to kill them.
