Assassin’s Creed developer told how infamous secondary missions appeared in the game

Sometimes, the development of video games involves a host of interesting and vivid stories, most of which, unfortunately, ordinary users will never recognize. Nevertheless, albeit rarely enough, but we have a chance to look into the secrets of the production processes of our favorite projects. So, one of the former employees Ubisoft Charles Randall decided to share with readers the story of creating the original Assassin’s creed.

Perhaps many remember that on the release Assassin’s creed in 2007 project scolded for excessive rehearsal. And if the main tasks were most often noted as a strong side of the game, then the secondary content became an occasion for serious criticism. AND, as it turned out, ill-fated missions appeared in the historical action movie only for one extremely unexpected reason – shortly before the release, the child of one of the senior leaders decided to get acquainted with the current build of the game Ubisoft.

Exact names Randall I didn’t call, but, according to him, the game seemed trite to the beloved child of the higher authorities. In this regard, the production team quickly built a new plan: the game needs to be expanded by adding more activities there. The catch was that beforegold care“there was very little time left – five full days.

Randal, along with a small group of specialists, temporarily occupied one of the closed parts of the office space and actively set to work, which, according to the developer himself, today he cannot even remember in detail. It is noteworthy that a special emphasis was placed on the fact that Randal and his team should not only add new content to the project, but also try to get rid of any errors. Those who passed Assassin’s creed at the time of its release, they already realize that programmers have completely completed their task.

Although Randall himself admits that they nevertheless made a number of small bugs, one of which was the Templar, necessary for the murder, which could simply disappear from your game, because of which the user risked to be in a situation where one of the in-game achievements was just impossible to unlock.

At the end Charles Randall wrote that the overall story of the creation of the game was extremely clear, becoming one of the most striking episodes of his career. And, in spite of the fact that to some such a revelation may seem an example of disorganization on the part of Ubisoft, the former developer claims the opposite: adding some game elements literally in the last weeks and days is quite common practice for the industry. And if the end result justifies itself, as was the case with Assassin’s creed, then there’s absolutely nothing to worry about.
