AM4 socket will support Ryzen 4000 CPU, but not on older boards – review

In 2016, the company AMD introduced the AM4 socket for the then Zen architecture and promised to support it until 2023 inclusive. At the moment it is compatible with processors up to the line Ryzen 3000. However, it has now become known that support will appear for Ryzen 4000.

Resource cdrinfo reported that AMD plans to support desktop processors with architecture Zen 3 on motherboards with sockets AMD X570 and B550. To work, you only need to update the BIOS, after which you can start the system.

At the same time, AMD said that it does not plan to introduce support for the Zen 3 architecture for older chipsets, since there BIOS chips are limited in volume.

Thus, although formally the processors will be fully compatible with motherboards based on the AM4 socket, in fact you will have to choose one of the relatively new models. As noted, motherboards with the AMD B550 chipset will appear on June 16th. They will receive support for PCIe 4.0 and other technologies.
