A meat grinder on Metro? Battlefield 2042 will delight fans with classic maps

Publisher Electronic Arts held an online broadcast on July 8 dedicated to “the future of first person shooters“. Top managers of studios took part in the event. DICE, Respawn and Ripple effectincluding the creator Call of duty Vince Zampellou

In reality, however, EA employees hardly talked about the “future”. Zampella generally stated that he did not know what shooters would expect in a few years, and at one point they began to discuss FIFA and Need for speed

The greatest cynicism is associated with the mention of Titanfall and Apex legends… Now Respawn is trying to ignore the hacking scandal, and on social networks, studio employees swear because they had to work during the holidays.

However, EA still shared scraps of information. So on July 22 EA Play Live a new male hero will be announced for Apex Legends. Presumably it comes about the leader of the group Apex Predators Cubene Bliske of Titanfall 2who can run on walls and temporarily drop an AI-controlled titan onto the battlefield.

Concerning Battlefield 2042then the general manager of Ripple Effect Christian Grass confirmed the information that the studio is working on a “nostalgic” mode that will allow players to return to the classic maps from previous installments Battlefield

According to preliminary data, the mode has a working title BattleHub (Battlefield hub) and balance gives way to fun. In particular, we are talking about the use of equipment from different eras on one map. If the location meets the conditions, then support for 128 players will be enabled.

How a little later clarified insider Tom Henderson, on the release of BattleHub we should expect the following maps to appear:

  • Operation Metro;
  • Operation Locker;
  • Wake Island;
  • Siege of Shanghai;
  • Arica Harbor;
  • Caspian Border.

It is not clear which versions of the locations will be involved. So, Metro exists in three variations, Wake Island – in four, Caspian Border – in two. Note that Metro and Locker are also considered the most “meaty” maps designed for infantry gunfights in a confined space.

A full presentation of Ripple Effect’s work will take place at EA Play Live on July 22nd.
